Eco-Dyeing with Staghorn Sumac

Create a unique t-shirt using Staghorn Sumac leaves. Staghorn Sumac is a nonpoisonous native plant that can grow invasively along highways and yards. But is also makes wonderful, nuanced images when eco-dyed. In the morning, we’ll mordant your t-shirts and forage for sumac leaves and branches at Talking Bread. Then you’ll put your t-shirt together and place it in an iron water dye bath. While the scarves are dyeing, you’ll have free time from 11 to approximately 1:00 to have lunch at Talking Bread or just relax with a snack. Also, I’ll have supplies to make a string bracelet with naturally dyed cotton and a wooden bead. At 1:00 p.m. we’ll remove the scarves from the bath and have the” big reveal”. Participants much bring a 100% cotton t-shirt.
